C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors, and in today’s blog post, I am going to delve into his life as well as talk about how he has and continues to influence my writing.
According to C.S. Lewis’s website, C.S. Lewis’s full name is Clive Staples Lewis and he lived from 1898-1963. He was born in Belfast, Ireland. The site says, “He was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to Chair Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement.”
According to C.S. Lewis’s website, he has written “…more than thirty books, and he wanted to reach a vast audience.” Other than The Chronicles of Narnia, he also wrote The Dark Tower and Other Stories, and The Great Divorce. Also, he wrote Out of Silent Planet, the first book of a Space Trilogy. I have never read those books, but they do sound interesting.
When I first discovered C.S. Lewis’s great work, The Chronicles of Narnia, I thought to myself it was going to be interesting in a good way. When I read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, my imagination went wild, also in a good way. I wasn’t wrong. The books were interesting! C.S. Lewis has influenced my writing ever since I read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. His writing inspired me to be an author myself, and I’ve been dreaming up and creating my own stories ever since.
When I first read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, it was pretty cool how he told the story in a way that left some room for my imagination to paint the picture of his world in my head. Ever since then, I have loved and revisited this story. Whenever I go back and read this particular story, even parts of this story, it truly blows my mind (in a good way). As I have been developing my own stories and book series for about 7-8 1/2 years now, I truly believe I have learned a lot from his writing style and story-telling ability and strive to keep learning and writing, no matter what.
When I revisit the inspiration that C.S. Lewis got for The Chronicles of Narnia, it truly amazes me. I hope as I continue to write and keep developing my stories, I can think outside of the box and use my life and life in general for inspiration.
I hope you learned some new information about C.S. Lewis as an author and a person. I hope when I deliver my stories, you might understand that it’s okay to be yourself because that’s what C.S. Lewis has helped me understand through his writing.
